The last week or so has flown by along with the kms. After Poland we headed to Vilnius Lithuania, nice quaint city with spectacular churches (more churches than people I think). In the evening we visited the hill of crosses which was a moving experience. People from all over the world have left crosses here, it was originally started when locals were deported to Siberia or killed while under the rule of Russia. We barely scratched the surface of this small country before crossing into Latvia.

First stop was the must see Palace in ????????(past few days have been a bit of a blur...... forgive me) Wonderful light, big and airy rooms with superbly painted ceilings. Only forty rooms are open at the moment but its more than enough to keep you busy. The French manicured gardens are big, huge and neat with tons of roses. Riga was our next stop, second capital in as many days. This city was like so many other big european cities with the gorgeous old town, cobbled streets and of course the cafe culture. The day and evening was spent wondering and admiring the superb medieval buildings in the old city, while the newer city has some of the best Art Nouveau buildings we have seen on this trip. The sight seeing was interrupted by a traditional meal of fish pie, chicken and mushroom meat balls followed by a traditional dessert that tasted like christmas pudding.

Before we knew it we was in Parnu, Estonia enjoying the fine sandy beaches and much more tolerable temperatures. Tallinn was our final stop over before heading to Helsinki. Our last night in the Baltic was spent in the old town in a medieval restaurant enjoying the massive Deer feast. Bowls and plates of food are bought to the table with enough to feed you for a week. From elk to turnip, bread n lard to pickles, apple n almonds mixed with milk washed down with light beer with cinnamon.......luvvvly !!

So here we are at Merjas enjoying being couch potatoes while watching some TV and having a real bed. We are having a couple of days off before heading north to Marjas home.

In the last ten days or so we have covered about 2000kms heading north, In that time we really noticed the days stay lighter for much longer every day. From being dark at 9.00pm in Bosnia to still reading outdoors at 10.30pm in Latvia. The only downfall is I wake up with the sunrise at about 4.30 with the sun coming through the van windows.
