Today we started with a half day tour to Monet's garden in Giverny. We were picked up at the hotel and it took an hour to get there. We wondered through the famous Japenese garden
before enjoying a stroll thriugh the very quaint village of Giverny. On the way back to Paris one of the other people on the tour remarked on how there were 45 Monet's hanging in one of the rooms - he seemed most disappointed when I told him they were copies of paintings hanging in galleries around the world.
On the way back to Paris we travelled through a number of quaint and rustic towns seeing some beautiful country side before meeting up with the highway again. The driver dropped us off at Sacre Coeur, a magestic Church high upon a hill. This was another amazing church and again we climbed up to the top of the main dome for grand views of Paris - Fiona is getting rather sick of stone spiral starcases though. This church was amazing because there was a whole level of the church that was below street level which was just as amazing as that above.
After the church we strolled around Montmartre at a leisurely pace looking at all the stalls in the market. Being a Sunday it was very crowded with tourists and locals alike. There were many artists doing portraits of people and so many souvenoir shops about.
It was during this time that the call of nature made it self know to me. After about 30 minutes we finally found a self cleaning toilet - it took another 15 minutes in a line before I could use it.
Personal Note #2 Tom: I almost took a photo to rival yours but decided I was above that sort of thing -just!
At about 4:30pm we decided to catch the train the considerable distance back to the hotel to freshen up before going out for dinner. Now that we were experts at the underground it took us no time at all to find a station get our tickets and be hurtling under the streets of Paris.
Personal Note #3 Tom: You'd be impressed. The trains are a lot narrower than ours but they are packed and on a Sunday afternoon they came every 4 minutes.
