The trip began early this morning. At 3:00 am three separate alarms sounded in the Free household. We even had a 3:20 am wake up call - thanks Patricia! We were hoping someone would show up with bagels and coffee but guess that is asking too much. As I create this entry, we are waiting in Chicago for our connecting flight to Tokyo. So far, so good with all of the tickets, passport/visa checks and security lines. I (Robert) got frisked coming through Chicago security. Normally, I have to at least buy dinner to get that sort of action. Speaking of security, could it get any more hectic going through security? After getting frisked (and exchanging phone numbers with my very friendly TSA agent), it occurred to us that going through security with Anelise on the way back will be even more interesting. As Lan and I stared at each other contemplating what fun that should be, we decided it is best to focus on getting her first, then we can worry about the next step. One thing at a time.
Before I forget, Lan and I want thank all of our family and friends for your support and love throughout this process. It has been an up and down ride for sure and it was faith, family and friends that helped us weather those days. We consider ourselves very fortunate indeed to all of you - thanks.
Unfortunately, I cannot connect to the net so this entry will not hit the travel blog on the web until I can "plug in" to a connection in Saigon. By the way, Vietnam is either 11 or 12 hours ahead of eastern standard time. Hopefully the next entry will cover our trip down to the orphanage in Soc Trang to meet Anelise. Until then, all the best to you.
