Today was a day to leave Australia and enter the micro nation (Australia's biggest) called the Principality of Hutt River. Now I had never head of this 'country' before this trip and was one of the main reasons I went on this tour to see what it was about and I couldn't resist the opportunity to have another stamp in the passport.

The principality was founded in 1970 by Prince Leonard and his misses Princess Shirley when he chose to secede from Australia . The country is near Northampton but it proves difficult to find on maps and even google maps as its not really recognised in its own right.

Long story short this guy wasn't happy with regulations set out by the WA state in regards to wheat production back in the 70's and wasn't happy with the way government ruled the roost. So he looked back to the British roots and to a Treason Act to be able to tax dodge around the WA system which he successfully managed to do so fir play to him for creating a country...needless to say the Australian government worked very fast to stop others doing the same. Still today those that are citizens of the province are exempt from any income tax today.

We were guided around the premises by the Prince himself who showed us coins and stamps of the province which features the Prince himself and he was quick to show us emails from the WA Governor and the Prime Minister who both declined going to the 40th Anniversary celebrations of the Principality...I don't get why you'd frame the rejection emails but he is happy so best to leave it that way. He showed us around the chapel which verged on blasphemy with his kids being depicted in the pictures.

There were further explanations about how the Aussie government messed his family around and the accolades from other countries to the Hutt River and then it was some free time to have a look around. Now the flys were big pests this day so I took a few pics and back on the bus we went.
