Stifled in our attempt to get from Pisco to Cuzco all at once thanks to the flood of people buying up the bus seats for the Peruvian Independence Day hollidays, we spent a night in this dune-encircled town just outside of Ica. Not such a bad place to get stuck, Huacachina apparently used to be a ritzy resort town, but now is more of an overpriced backpacker hangout. The primary activity is sandboarding down the dunes, with or without a dune-buggy to shuttle you back up. Didn't get to try it out given our brief stay, but I did hike up (almost) to the top of the dune behind our hostel. Our evening activity was a trip into Ica to see Wall-E. The Spanish dubbing didn't hinder our enjoyment, as much of the first half of the film is silent anyway. I was surprised to see that even the text in the film (billboards, etc) was printed in Spanish as well. Wonder for how many other languages they create animation.
