After this I was treated to a very elaborate Shojin Ryori meal. It's called "monk food" but it is a far cry from the congee I ate at the monastery in Burma. I had no idea tofu and sea vegetable can be used in so many ways. It was divine to look at! Some things were a bit odd, but for the most part I was feeling pretty Zen.
That night we picked up Hiro's mom (who lives behind the Fuji Super) for dinner, we had Sukiyaki. I stuck with the chicken, but there was horse and whale on the menu (Mom, I think I know where your California Delta disappeared to now). We went back to Hiro's mom's place and she showed me all the family photos. She is very proud of her children, but most proud of her husband. It's hard to see someone miss someone so much after over 7 years, but she does. Her gardens were amazing! The most beautiful hydrangea I have ever seen (and I've seen a lot on this trip). It was a great day. I love this family and I love how much they have made me feel at home.
