Climbing Chirripo:36 hours of hell!

...We start off very happy, determined and excited! Our hostel told us it was only a short walk to the entrance of the park...turned out to be 1.5 K at a 45 degree incline, but Iīm sure thatīs a short walk in someones book...nonetheless, we officially start our hike! After the first 4 K, we definitely started to question our sanity. We did luck out with the weather, though..it was a very clear day and the views were amazing. We finally stopped around Kilometer 9 for a couple tuna sandwiches and to take off our shoes. With only 5k left...we decide to keep trucking. While climbing Chirripo, you pass through many different Bio-spheres, the last one is almost desert like....and we arrive at base camp....exhausted and at the mercy of a glacier cold shower. For dinner its packaged pasta prepared on a little butane stove that neither one of us would have touched with a ten foot pole under normal circumstances..but met the only two criterion of the moment...warm and filling. We wake up and feel like shit!....to make a long story short, we climed the wrong summit, which turned out to be nice, and then we walked home in 5 hours of rain, not sprinkling but literally the sky opening up and dumping all it had on us! But we made it, picked up a few beers, ate dinner and asleep by 7. So, despite Chantra almost passing out from altitude sickness, Kiley losing three toenails, and parts of our bodies hurting that we didn't even know existed...we did survive!
