Today was the last day of the last session of General Camp!  We're back into speciality camp with 52 staff (from 110 at it's peak) and 175 kids, down from 290 last week!  The Summer has really flown by and it was sad saying goodbye to a lot of the American staff and one or two British staff today.  All the the Unit Heads apart from me and Kate who's from Aus have gone home so some people have been asked to step in to cover the last two weeks.  Shawnee has been closed as they don't have kids that young for speciality and so I'm moving Units.  Bit of a change as I'm heading back to Sioux (where I lived, minus kids, for the first two weeks of camp) which is the second oldest Unit, aged 12 to 13.

As usual on the switch weekends (the weekends when the kids go home) we had a special themed dinner.  This week's was a Mexican fiesta!  Makes a really nice chance to have something different and the food is always a bit nicer than the usual camp fare.  We had fajitas with vegtables, black beans and real guacamole.  I got a little over excited about that as only the other day we few of us were talking about how much we wanted some avacado!  Last switch weekend was a roast dinner and we managed to talk the kitchen staff into making us yorkshire pudding!!  We did offer to make if for them but in the end we just gave them a scaled up recipe and made sure they knew about the hot fat.  They actually turned out pretty well and all the British staff loved it.

Lots of people are taking about whether or not they'll be coming back next year and quite a few people seem to want to, which is nice, though of course you never know if plans will come to fruition.  I'd really love to come back but I don't know if I'll be able to, maybe if they let me just come for the 8 weeks of General I could work that around a new job.  Who knows!

After much frustration with the Greyhound Bus website I finally conquered it and I've booked all of my post camp travel.  It's quite an itinary:
3 Days- Washington DC
3 Days- - Philadelphia
2 Days - Buffalo, NY (Niagera Falls)
3 Days- - Toronto
3 Days- - Montreal
3 Days- - Quebec City
1 Day - Montreal
5 Days - New York
7 Days - San Fransisco
3 Days- - San Diego
3 Days- - LA
4 Days - Las Vegas
3 Days- - Flagstaff, Arizona
1 Day - Pheonix (Airport!)
3 Days- New Orleans
4/5 Days - Miami

I've also decided that I'm going to go to Our Cabana in Mexico for the Day of the Dead event, which I really wanted to be there for but was going to miss.  I'm heading there straight from the US so will be returning to the UK after that, on either the 6th or 7th of November!

Other camp related news, I got to drive the other day!  Borrow one of the American's cars and drove to Walmart and back, a pretty decent, un-eventful 40 minute drive each way.  Managed to stay on the right side of the road the whole drive and navigate a left and right turn, although none of those freaky four way junctions!
