The weather has finally cheered up a bit, although we had the WORST rain I've ever seen in my life on Wednesday, my trainers have only just dried out.
We seem to have finished most of the cleaning now so the later part of this week has been taken up with testing out the activities so people can have practice teaching. So, have had a go at pottery, which I'm not very good at! My attempt at making things on the wheel produced a rather attractive bonbon dish, well, that's the best way I can thing to describe it! Also had chance to get into the Arts and Crafts area and see what there is there.
We've been planning the projects we're going to be doing with the kids and testing them/making examples. Had a really good laugh doing mask making, as you can see. Poor Lauren ended up with plaster all over her face, straws up her nose and no dignity. The idea is that you make a mold then poor liquid plaster into the mold which will give an exact replica of the face. Not sure if we're allowed to do it with the kids but it was funny anyway!
Food is ok, jelly (Jello) and a huge bowl of apple sauce with every meal is a little odd but otherwise it's good. The cooks are good at giving a veggie alternative so I'm not starving, and even if I was, we seem to get cake at every lunch and dinner! I'm putting myself on a cake embargo next week. Two girls had their birthday yesterday, and the camp custom is to make a HUGE tray of cake for each person who's birthday it is. Honestly, these cakes are at least 2 feet square! Crazy stuff.
The Camp Director, Joe Grietzer arrived yesterday. He seems really nice and down to earth, and has been good at making sure all the staff are happy and that everything is working ok for us.
Sorry again for the lack of photos but the computers here aren't the newest and because everyone is on the internet at pretty much the same time it gets very slow. Hopefully when the kids actaully arrive and time off is scheduled it won't be in use so much and I can upload things properly.
