Well, I made it! I could NOT get to sleep for the life of me on the plane, but finally drifted off about two hours after trying. I'm guessing I got about 4 hours of sleep. On the bright side, I finished another book, and I slept almost all the way through landing - missing breakfast, then, of course. In Madrid there was a little hiccup in my plans because the number on my current credit card is different than the number that was on my previous card, the one I used to pay for the ticket. I tried explaining to the sales clerk that I was clearly the same person and that I had many different pieces of identification to prove that, but she was unconvinced and didn't want to let me through. I'm not sure what I said that finally convinced her (and for those of you thinking it, NO, I did NOT cry) but I was finally able to get my boarding pass and go through to Sevilla.

Contrary to the last flight, I could barely keep my eyes open. I had a little extra time to sleep because the flight was delayed 45 minutes, and then we had an hour flying time. I couldn't call my Spanish family from Madrid because I accidentally checked my voda cell phone with my suitcase, so I got here and still had no idea how they were picking me up. I called the house, no answer, then called Toni's cell phone and Maria answered, and she said I should take the bus, which is what I usually did when I traveled in and out of the Sevilla airport. Maria was the only one home when I got back because Toni was at work and Jose Luis was at a friend's house. It was pouring rain and so I didn't feel like going out and exploring, and plus I was exhausted! I relaxed, we ate, I unpacked, then Jose Luis got home and I said a quick hello before he headed out with friends again. Toni got back around 6:30, much later than normal, because it was her last day at work and they had a big lunch party in her honor. It was wonderful to see her again, she wanted to "darme besos fuertes" (give me lots of kisses) and make sure that I was as comfortable as possible which of course, I always am here.

Then later on in the evening, her brother and his family came over. I love seeing the little boys (who are 10 and almost 7 now) and playing games with them, but last night I was too tired to do anything but converse mediocrely. There were times that I had no problem with the words but others that I would be speaking and in the middle of the sentence, I'd use an English word. I think it'll get easier as the days go on, though. We ate dinner and I managed to stay awake for the whole thing, even though we finished at 11:15. I got in bed at midnight and slept straight through until 11:30 am! That made me laugh because I told Toni I was sure that I wouldn't be able to sleep past 9 am. Ha, looks like I was wrong!

Today I walked around Nervión (the neighborhood to the west of mine, which is Ciudad Jardín) and went to the mall to recharge my phone and get a gift at el Corte Inglés. That store sure hasn't changed - I went up all 6 escalators and still couldn't find what I was looking for. Luckily, unlike the last time I was there, I didn't lose my debit card. I noticed only a few things that were different: they've finished a few more bike paths, El Tirador restaurant doesn't have the same name anymore (but it does still have the kegs or whatever they were), and the librería Beta isn't there anymore. There were a ton of people out shopping since I assume most people have today off for the holiday.

María and I just finished lunch and now we're getting things ready for dinner tonight. I'm excited to have a traditional Spanish New Year's, where we eat grapes and drink champagne at midnight! I'm sure the niños will be bored later on, so we'll be on Photo Booth and those pictures will be posted with the next entry :)
