People who know me will know my answer, without a doubt, to this question: "Fly or drive?" I'll admit, I've been spoiled with my dad's job and have been able to fly to so many amazing places. But in all honesty, it's more than that; think about the opportunity cost (here's the business student in me). That time spent driving, especially if you're driving by yourself, could have been spent reading, catching up on emails, exercising, or something...and at least when you're flying, you personally don't have to think about the navigation. Well, I'm surprising everyone this time. How am I getting from Indiana to Arizona? Driving.

Yes, driving. These are special circumstances, though. My parents are in the process of moving from Indiana to Arizona, and so this winter break trip is an opportunity to move some of the smaller home furnishings while also escaping the frigid winters of Indiana. The original plan was for my mom and dad to drive out, with the possibility of me joining them via airplane after spending a few days in Fort Wayne. However, Captain Bob (Dad) ended up picking up a trip and so it turned out that he was going to have to meet us in AZ later anyway. I wasn't going to let my mom drive that distance by herself, and I figured it might actually be a good opportunity for some mother-daughter bonding and a fun experience to see that much of the country, most of which I haven't seen before. I never thought I would say this, but I'm actually excited to drive.

So, as I write, I'm sitting in my room in my apartment at school, surrounded by bags of clothes and shoes and odds and ends that need to fit somewhere. Usually when I go home for break, I bring a TON of stuff - I hate feeling like I'm living out of a suitcase, so I just bring as much as I can fit in my car and enjoy the ability to have options. Not the case this time. After Arizona, I'm going to Spain to visit my host family (if there are seats on the airplane...) and then back to Fort Wayne for a friend's wedding. I had to pack for those three very different climates, and I'm pretty impressed with what I've accomplished. We already established that some things will have to be shipped back to Fort Wayne, but it shouldn't be too much stuff.

My mom is probably leaving Fort Wayne as I write this, so I should finish cleaning and packing. The 3-day, 1700-mile road trip with my mom (oh, and did I mention - 2 cats?!) starts in T-minus 3 hours.
