After 4 days trekking we are back in Cusco relaxing our tired bodies. The trek of a life time started on Monday. We started off at a place called km82 from here we walked 42km over 4 days. This may not seem like a long way but the paths are not flat like in Cambridgeshire we walked up steep mountains and then went down steep mountains in the heat and sometimes in the rain! Along the way the views were amazing, we saw snow capped mountains, distant rivers and ranges, cloud forest flushes and cliff hanging ruins which made for an unforgettable experience. Most days we started walking at 7am and finished at 3pm however on the last day we had to get up at 3.30am and started walking at 4.30am this was to be able to get the most out of Machu Picchu, this was also to allow our porters to run 45 minutes down the mountain side to catch their train. Porters are people who carry the equipment along the trail on their backs they are only allowed a maximum of 20kg to carry. This may not seem a lot however it is when your winding up and down mountain sides. They also had to walk/run fast as they had to get to camp before us to set everything up and to make the dinner. These dinners were amazing seeing that they only had two gas burners! They consisted of 3 course traditional meals which helped with our energy. Overall, it was amazing, unforgettable and a great challenge that we will never forget
