been a while ... I know. Well, so much has happened since my last entry. I left NZ on a last minute decision, and came back to Australia with much sadness I must admit. But my trip is winding down and I knew I had to spend some time with the family before I went home.
so I few to Brisbane, spent two night there and then flew to Rockhampton. My cousin Karen was unable to pick me up on account of it being a three hour drive and her having 5 kids. So, she arranged for me to hitch a ride with Paul, the guy that moves their cattle. So I met him at a gas station and jumped in his massive road train (aka cattle transporting truck) and we moved two loads of cattle to the slaughter house and then headed to Springsure.
got to Springsure, went to my grandmother's and spent the night there. Next day Karen (my cousin) came to pick me up in her mini cattle truck and we headed to the farm (Echo Hills).
So I've been out at the farm for about a month ... and it's been eventful. I drank bad water and got deathly ill while out with the three oldest kids (Daniel 12, Jamie 10 and Zac 7). spent three solid days in bed. Was not fun. Some of you may recal a year earlier I drsnk from a stinky thermos and got deathly ill. I guess this will be an annual thing ... April rolls round, I drink something rank and get deathly ill. What's wrong with me??
Anyways, the water incident day ... I was on a quad with the three oldest ones, Daniel and Jamie on their dirt bikes, Zac on his mini quad and Daniel decides to cut off Zac, they both roll and zac's quad ends up ontop of Daniel who is wedged to the ground with his leg stuck. There is much screaming and crying (kids not me), me thinking a leg had been severed off. Jamie was sent for help in her histarics ... I'm left with the scrawny 7 year old to pull this thing off of him ... which didn't look like it was going to happen for a while. but after some pulling and tugging I got the bloody thing off of him. Leg was still attached and un broken. Thank god. Mom comes roaring down the road about 15 minutes later, there was some yelling and spanking and when we got home she and I got into the beer to settle our nerves. the joys of farm life.
I've gotten lessons on how to drive a dirt bike ... yes I am now fully qualified to drive a child's three speed dirt bike. I had one fall, but that was cause she forgot to explain front and rear brakes to me ... but then all was good. Later today the 12 year old is teaching me to drive a stick shift.
I rode a horse, much to my protest. But I wasn't bucked or bitten so I guess it was alright.
We went down to Karen's beach house in Yeppoon for easter with the kids and my aunt Ann (Karen's husband stayed behind ... the life of a farmer). Nice house ... right across the road for the beach, salt water pool .... soooo nice. The kids and Karen left early and Ann and I stayed behind for an extra week to relax a little. Nice to get away for the kids for a bit.
Lets see what else ... oh yeah, I turned 26 .... horray for being fucking old.
I'm back at the farm now .... on babysitting duties. Stop laughing. Karen is out with the kids feeding and mustering cows ... these kdis are fucking good little horse riding cowboys! so I'm here with Josh, the 7 month old. He mostly sleeps so I just waste time on the internet. It works out nice. Later I'm going out with Karen and the kids driving somewhere (likely I'll be getting my driving lesson from Daniel) and doing some sight seeing around the property.
Lets see, the kids. Daniel is the oldest and thinks he is the shit. Give him another couple of years and he probably will be ... that is if he doesn't kill himself first. He has had many near death experiences on his bike. Jamie is 10 and wants to be a girly-girl more than anything ... but she's not. She is always brused and scraped and has a thing with breaking her front teeth. She cracks me up, I want to bring her home with me. Zac is the middle kid. Not much more to say. Bradley is 4 ... a very young 4 and he refuses to agree with me on anything .... therefore he is my nemesis and before I leave I WILL BREAK HIM!! we constantly fight ... and I must admit it is emotionally draining fighting with a 4 year old. They never tire of arguing ... and when you think it's over and done with, they'll come running into the room to tell you they love you. Little bastard!!! Josh is a good little baby. He thinks I'm funny and frequently pukes and drools on me.
It's been nice and lazy. I'm off on Wednesday back to Rockhampton and then Sydney on Saturday .... back to TO the following Thursday ... that's right ... 11 days to go. Where does time go?
