Howdy folks, greating from Northland! I'm FIIIIINALLLY wwoofing again! Thank god!! I had lined up a place to wwoof here in Kerikeri with this guy, we'll call Ian (primarily because that was his name). I was all set to leave Wednesday at 1:15pm. So got up nice and early, packed my bag, had some breakfast, chatted on the internet. When my time ran out on the computer I decided I should ring the guy to make sure he was able to pick me up in Kerikeri. They says when I call "oh, I've got an emergency with one of my kids, you can't come anymore". Fuuuuuuuuuck. So I pull out my trusty wwoofing book and start calling everyplace in Kerikeri frantically (as my bus was leaving in an hour and a half). Nobody is taking anyone. Just as I'm using my last minutes on my phone card (New Zealand has the stupedest and most expensive payphones in the world ... you need to buy phone cards to use them and a call costs like $5)this woman says well you should call Susan Coruso cause she's always looking for people
So, that's where I am. Susan is a really cool lady. She's originally from Pennsylvania and is a chyropractor. She has an AMAZING house with two cottages, her clinic and a communal garden where her and her neighbours all take care of and have all the fresh produce they want. She runs the place by herself, with wwoofers, and her adopted daughter Sofia who is 6 or something. There's one other wwoofer there as well, crazy american hippy guy named Tim. Strang strang boy.
So I do 4 hours of work in the morning and then have the rest of the day off. Yesterday Susan took us to Mangonoi and dropped Tim and I off at the beach ... amazing beach!!! trees to shelter you from the sun, warm water, tones of shells to collect and hardly anybody there. She then took us out for dinner which was really nice of her.
But now for the BIGGEST NEWS OF ALL!!! Susan has this friend/boyfriend named Richard. Susan had asked me my first day why I wanted to come to New Zealand to which I promptly replyed "sheep!! I wanna sheer and spin!!". So she mentioned this to Richard when he came by one day. He says, "oh well I've got tones of sheep and I'm sheering them on Sunday, come by and you can help and watch and I'll give you a bunch of fleece for free". I almost pissed myself I was soo excited, but I kept my cool as not to look like too much of a freek and said "okay".
So I put in 6.5 hours of work today in the crazy hot sun so I only have to do 1.5 hours tomorrow and then can spend the rest of the day chasing sheep around ... and likely rolling around in extasy in freshly sheered fleece. I know this is SUPER exciting for you all, so dont worry ... I'll give you ALL the details.
K, I feel like an idiot cause I'm using the computer in a McDonalds ... since when did McDonalds become a cyber cafe???? It was the only place that was open.
