Christchurch is a beautiful city. The cathedral located in the city centre and square in front is a must-visit and just strolling around the city may be good fun. I stayed in YWCA near the beautiful botanical garden and very far from a supermarket. Honestly, this lovely city is a good place to live, but not as a tourist destination. Unfortunately, I had to leave a few days because an international rugby matches were held in the city and all the accommodations were booked up. The destination at the moment was Kaikoura, located north of Christchurch. Some people including the Americans I met in my hostel visited the small town to enjoy whale watching. In my case, I just enjoyed strolling around the Kaikoura Peninsula. There were some seals lying on the beach and it was my first time to see wild seals. I was so excited that I approached one of them. Then he suddenly got up and roared at me, which made me terribly scared. The peninsula had some comfortable hiking trails with beautiful views. .
Then I came back to Christchurch once, but I had to return to Auckland after a few day stay. I knew there were more naturally beautiful spots in the southern part of the southern island like Milford Sound, but I had to leave, because I was scheduled to see my family in Auckland.
