Penang was a large island which was located in the north of Malaysia and the city is also called Georgetown. We took a ferry boat to the island just after we got off the train in the early morning. Then we easily found a bus to the northern beach, although a few taxi drivers surrounded us. We stayed in a guest house near the beach of Batu Feringgi. The first guest house we tried was operated by a Chinese. I didn't like it, because I knew from my experience that Chinese were likely to cause a trouble. Then we found Ali's guest house nearby, which has a restaurant on the beach. We travelled around the island by bus. It was an idea to rent a motorbike and Jon wanted to take that option. if I had an insuranace, I may have agreed, but I couldn't just in case. The beach was less beautiful than we had expected with a few tourists, but we enjoyed bathing relaxing in a cafe just in front of our guesthouse, and strolling around the town. Because we were afraid of thefts occuring in the beach, we didn't have so much fun in the beach. In the evening, Jon was into the film Mask 2 at the guesthouse, but I could put up with the noise in the guesthouse and stopped watching after a while. We visited reclining Buddha (in Wat Chayamangkalaram), Snake Temple, Penang Airport, and so on during a few day stay. I cannot say the famous resort was perfect for us, but a lot of hotels on the beach showed how popular it was.
