We spent the last two days in Turangi, North Island, NZ.  The first day we hiked in Tongariro National Park (next to Mt. Doom, the home of Mordor the evil wizard from Lord of the rings), which is a very hard, hot and long hike.  The scenery was out of this world.  The hike was 17 km, but felt much longer to our tired old bones as we were always going steep up or steep down.  We stayed 2 nights at a nice fishing lodge in Turangi where you could see hundreds of huge trout in the river.  We made some friends there, including a little Beagle named Boston.  Day 2 in Turangi, we rafted the Tongariro River with our guide Garth.  New Zealand is an outdoor paradise - it's like a combination of Oregon and Hawaii.
