We woke up around 7am and started to get ready for the day ahead. We started with the buffet breakfast at the hotel. This was great as it kept us going until we had time for a late lunch.
Then with backpack and camera in hand we hit the Subway and traveled one stop to Universal Studios. The Subway was very convenient and cheap to use, though it was confusing to know which line to catch as the signs are no where near as good as Melbourne's!
We strolled from one spot to the other at Universal and had a great time. You wouldn't believe it (as Darren didn't)...when we got the free shuttle from the bottom of the Universal hill to the front entrance, I sat next to a guy who at first looked a bit dodgy. Somehow we started talking and he told me he worked at the Universal tour rides
The Studio Tour was the first thing we did once we got through the long queue at the entrance and YES...my friend saw me and ran us to the front of the tour queue. A smile never hurts! The tour was cool...especially the King Kong 4D part of the ride (this means you get squirted with water all the time!")
I sat out and let Darren and the girls go on the Simpsons ride as it is a jerky ride. I got to lie on the bench and enjoy the sun and have a rest. The kids loved this experience, telling me this was "awesomely fantastically superbly cool." We got squirted a lot in the Shrek 4D experience and sneezed on. I didn't think I could do this either, but they have some seats reserved for invalids like me who can't do the movement thing.
Holly's favourite ride was the Jurassic Park ride which she was just
big enough to go on (46") . (I won't say that Emily was too chicken to go on
We got lots of photos with all sorts of cartoon characters and enjoyed our 'Dodgers Hot Dogs' for lunch. Three hot dogs cost us about $18! I think we drank litres of water and we were lucky finding a drinking fountain hidden next to one of the rides. They obviously don't want you filling up your own bottles and prefer charging $4 per drink...but that's exactly what we did! :-) We had to drink so much as it was about 30 degrees again today.
We hit the Subway for the return home and got on the wrong train thanks to wrong directions from a passenger. Oh well, it just meant we had to wait a few minutes and return 2 stations in the other direction a few minutes later. I told you their screens were hard to read.
It is hard to find take away near our hotel unless you want pizza and we just wanted something to eat in the room. McDonald's was the only other option available...but then Darren found a nice Chinese take away and came home with a feast. We had a real camp experience as the hotel (which isn't cheap...but you pay for the location) really only has two nice beds, a bathroom and telly
Hey...funny fact for the day. Did you know that "Fall" (Autumn as us Aussies would call it actually starts September 22nd!) It does not change on the first of the month like I would have thought.
So it is time to wind up for the day. Showers all round and time to repack everything as it is "RV" day tomorrow morning! Whoo hoo! Watch out drivers...here we come.
