After the Grand Canyon, we continued heading west. It's interesting to note that on the interstates out here, bicyclists are allowed in the shoulders. Lots of times the interstate is the only thing for miles around. Our route to Las Vegas took us over the Hoover Dam. Before crossing the dam, every vechicle had to stop at a check point and get inspected. We had to get out and open all of compartments. The state trooper also came inside the camper and inspected the inside. He said everything was good for us to go. When approaching the dam, we kept seeing signs saying delays at the dam cause of holiday traffic. We thought that was strange since there was hardly anyone around us in the hour or so we approached the dam. After the checkpoint and five miles before the dam we hit the traffic. We crawled the rest of the way to and across the dam. Since we were moving so slow, I just took pictures from the camper instead of finding a place to park and getting out. It was interesting to see how much Lake Mead has dropped. The white rock represents where the water level was at its peak. I was not able to get a good angle shot of the lower side of the dam. After the dam, traffic moved smoothly all the way to Las Vegas, NV
When we approached Las Vegas, all you saw was suburban neighborhoods filling the whole valley. At the far end, you see a bunch of tall buildings and a needle tower in a row. That is the strip. We're staying at the Circus Circus KOA. Uncle Bill walked me through the casino and out to the strip in the evening. There were lots of lights and glammer. I didn't feel comfortable going by myself down the strip at night without being first familiarized with the area during the day. Also, the wide variety of people walking around me also made me nervous. So I came back to the motor home and uploaded all the pictures I took from the days travel.
I have been having trouble connecting to the internet and with my sound. That is why I might not get all the pictures or journal entries up until a later date. When I turn on my laptop, I get the common Window's welcome noise, but as soon as I go to play music, the program says there is something wrong with my sound and my laptop does not recognize any sound devices. I've had this problem before and, after playing around with different things, got it to work. Since I do not have my CDs that came with the laptop or reliable internet access, I'm stuck. I will have to wait until I have better internet connection or until I get home. I still have my IPOD that I can use though if I really want to listen to music. Tomorrow, Uncle Bill said he'd make arrangements for us to see the strip. I hope to walk the strip tomorrow night to take in the sights and sounds. It is suppose to be near 100 degrees. I should remember to wear sun screen this time out . Until next time.....
