July 7th

Today started out like yesterday, a bummy day. I slept in until nine this morning, mostly because I've been going to bed later and later. I guess this means I've gotten over my jet lag. So after sleeping half the morning away we had another filling breakfast but this time we jazzed with a fellow traveller. Usually there's no one around in the mornings, but we'd gotten up pretty late so there were a few people going in and out of the kitchen and we got to know a fellow from London England. He's been travelling for a while and has stayed in New Zealand for five years, two of which have been on the North Island. He has stayed here in Paihia for two months and is planning to get a sky diving degree. I call him the adventure seeker, but he came from being a math teacher so I guess the numbers got to him.

After breakfast and the usually morning rituals we decided to go check on the grants to see if Grandpa was able to retrieve his debit card. We got to the room ten minutes before he came back from his morning activities and were able to talk to Audry about her plans for the day. She was very tired and didn't feel like doing much of anything. I told my mom she could stay inside today, take to day off and read but she refused saying she didn't feel sick, though her sinuses were clogged. We made a list of all the things we had to do; get money from the bank, buy key chain from the gift store, send post cards ( I was only able to send one ), go on the Internet and eat lunch. While walking out of the gift store we passed a sign that said " Tip Top " on it. Mother had told me that this was the name brand of ice cream that New Zealand was famous for. Upon further inspection we discovered they sold the ice cream. Mom got rum & raisin while I ordered a scoop of cookies & cream. We both enjoyed the ice cream ^^.

I forgot to ask Selena for her postal address, if one of you could ask her to send it to me by e-mail that would be greatly appreciated. Anyway, then we decided to go try to hike up the trail to the falls. We did make it to the trail, we did complete the trail, but boy were we ever tired after. The trail is five kilometres one way so we travelled 10 in total on that hike. You must take into consideration also that we walked from Paihia to the trail and needed to walk back. Needless to say our feet were a little sore. The trail is buried in lush vegetation and it's a beautiful hike. The falls at the end were well worth the walk. Though they were a little small, they still had all the majesty of a mightily waterfall. I took lots of pictures in hopes of capturing the magic this forest possessed.

For dinner this evening we had chicken drumsticks with salary fried rice, steamed cauliflower and chard.

Sorry for all the spelling mistakes,
Sabine Ng
