Where I stayed
Checked in at "The Waves" which is a B&B right on the Bay and we could hear and see the waves (aptly named) from our room. The B&B was charming in a rustic way and the owner Liza was lovely with a slight tendency towards the eccentric! A very warm and engaging lady with lots of energy. We spent some time on the beach - not quite sunbathing weather as it was slightly cloudy but there were a few sunny spells. Warm enough to sit on the sand and watch the surfers but not quite bikini baring temperatures! Steve went back to his childhood years spent in Whitby and did some rock pooling. Lunch was at the beachside shack which was nice enough and soon it was afternoon nap time
We headed into Wilderness for dinner and ate at a bustling Italian called "Pomodoro". Waiters all looked like surfers and our's forgot our starter but 2 platefuls of pasta was more than enough. We drove back to Victoria Bay in time for last orders at the shack and it began to pelt it down with rain which went on through the night but by morning the rain had gone and the sky was bright blue and the sun out in full force.
Breakfast was very pleasant, taken on the balcony overlooking the bay. Liza served and was a great hostess. When we checked out I noticed that she had framed two letters from Buckingham Palace.. One was from Lord Robert Fellowes, former private secretary to the Queen and married to Lady Di's sister and the other from a former private secretary to the Duke of Edinburgh. Liza is so proud of these and the fact the members of the Royal Household have been guests of her's! She loved telling me about their stay.
