Where I stayed
We were at Stellenbosch for about 9:30am and lucky for us we could check in and dump our bags. We'd arranged to meet a wine guide called Jaci for a day tour and Jaci promptly turned up with her son Jandrei who was our driver. Jaci is a very warm and friendy lady who has been doing all sorts of tours and transfers for the last few years. She lives in Franschhoek and has 4 sons, 2 of whom are part of her tour business. Her eldest does tours and airport / dinner transfers and Jandrei is just starting and is studying towards his licence and hopes to start some tours aimed at the younger and more active generation involving sports and other activities like that.
We went to 3 wineries before lunch each very different in character Skilpadvlei, Neethlingshof and Warwick. After lunch we did wine and cheese at Fairview and final stop was Grande Provence. By Fairview I had given up and had had too much wine as was not feeling too great. Steve as usual was more than happy to carry on. Wine tasting as always is great fun. Our overall thoughts were that the wine is excellent value and definitely quality v cost is an exceptional deal but none of the wines were mindblowingly brilliant. Nothing jumped out at us as being worthy to buy and bring home unlike when we were in New Zealand.
Returned to Wedgeview for a supper of a cheese platter and some Greek salad. Wedgeview is situated in a beautiful spot with gorgeous views of rolling hills and vines. It's owned by an ex Dutch international cricketer.
