On arriving in Bangkok for the overnight train we checked into the hotel and headed out to a local cafe for breakfast. W decided to spend the day shopping and some of us took a Tuk Tuk to the MBK mall. Meera, Reanna and myself had a bit of a pamper day! We had a full manicure and pedicure then had lunch at Pizza Hut....I had chicken soup and onion rings there which were probably the best I've ever tasted!
In the evening we all went for dinner together (our last dinner ( :( ) and went to Pat pong road (or patpongload to the locals) for shopping and watched a Ping Pong show (ill make no comments about this except to say I don't recommend it) and then went to a backpackers area to a club. The road was interesting....trolley stalls were serving all sorts of foods (and bugs!!)
We had our last breakfast with the group and Dave and said our goodbyes (but agreed to meet to go out later that night with some of the girls). I have become quite attached to the group and was very sad to say goodbye :( Meera and I checked out and too, a Tuk Tuk to the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel where we will be staying for 2 nights.
Turning up with our bags tied to the back of a Tuk Tuk to a grand 5 star hotel was pretty hilarious but the polite doormen simply smiled when they received us lol The Grand Hyatt was incredibly beautiful...we were in awe as soon as we walked in! The only drawback I would note would be the incredibly expensive Wifi and Internet use (£6/30 mins!!). I would have thought that such a hotel would have free wifi for their guests (especially since all the small hotels in Vietnam did!). I wanted to use the spa but again this was very expensive (£280 for a massage and use of facilities for the day) so I scrapped that idea lol.
The area we were in was more affluent and we went to some malls with lots of designer shops.....pretty every brand that I could think of...including those I have noticed only in Madrid and Milan.....it was window shopping heaven!
The restaurants in the hotel were also way too pricey but the doorman recommended a lovely Thai restaurant within the building which was amazing (Nara Thai Restaurant) and we had dinner there. After dinner we got a Tuk Tuk to the backpackers area and met up with Alicia, Justien and Reanna. We went to a live music bar (stifling hot but really enjoyed the music :)). We briefly saw the other tour group and got an opportunity to say goodbye to Nick and everyone else.
After an amazing breakfast (much better than the Hilton in London) we did some sightseeing today and went to see the sleeping Buddha at Wat Pho...it was pretty impressive! I saw a sign for a fortune teller whilst leaving and stupidly suggested trying it....we paid about 600 baht (£12) and this old man told me all kinds of rubbish....he was v sweet and I was trying hard not to laugh when he 'predicted my future'. Apparently I will live to 92 and have 3 children (2 boys and a girl).....how lovely! Lol lol lol Meera's fortune teller was even more ridiculous and I felt bad for suggesting we do it!
We went to dinner at Nara again that evening (really loved it!) and then to the night markets on Pat Pong road...got some lovely treasures ;)
We had the lovely breakfast again and went to relax by the pool today. It was lovely weather and lunch was salad and watermelon juice by the pool :) I showed Meera some swimming strokes I had made up and she laughed at me :( she showed me her butterfly stroke and I laughed at her! lol....I think the butterfly stroke is so strange!
We explored another shopping mall today and Meera bought some stunning shoes :) we relaxed for the rest of the day and checked out at 8pm.....I checked into another hotel near the airport and Meera was dropped to the airport for her flight back to London :( We got overcharged for the taxi and I forgot to give Meera my share.....will treat you to dinner when I'm back hun :)
Plan for tomorrow...6am start for a flight to Delhi tomorrow morning :) x
