Today we went to the Mala Beach Resort to swim and lunch. We drove down to a beach where we were met by a boat that took us across the lagoon to the small island that Mala Resort is on. It is beautiful....me thinks that is going to be a word you see often in this blog. I think I need to make use of an online thesaurus.
After coming back from that island to this island (har har har), we went to the market in town. Located along the wharf in Neiafu, 'Utukalongalu Market is a bustling place full of local seasonal produce and craft items. It is a merging of tourist and local shopping. With the bulk of the island grown produce outside under an awning and the craft items inside, people can find a variety of goods that they are looking for and some they didn't realize they wanted until they arrived on the scene.
Perusing the stalks of bananas, heaps of yams and breadfruit and a myriad of other goods, I came away with a couple of gifts and a bunch of fresh out of the ground peanuts, roots and all.
