A couple of days ago l was in Madrid, watching the most amazing dancing l have ever seen in a hidden away flamenco club! The flamenco club was a wonderful surprise we found out about from my easy jet magazine. Hidden behind a door in a bar called El Jugar in the rather dodgy ethnic district of Madrid---which is definitely not the safest area to be walking in at night (Kat and Janette were seriously wondering where l was taking them!) we entered what appeared to be a toilet door in the back of the bar and were suddenly transported to what felt like another world! The place was full and we stood on our tip toes to watch the spectacle before us. A girl stood centre stage with her hands raised in a arc, the music started playing and the fun began! A live flamenco singer, guitarist and drummer played the music which stirred ,me to start shouting out and clapping along with the rest of the Spanish local crowd. Every Sunday night the best up and coming flamenco stars from the world famous Amor de Dios school dance on this tiny stage. Ever since l had watched Strictly Ballroom l had wanted to witness authentic Spanish dancing, and this away from the tourist overpriced flamenco shows was the best authentic you can get in Spain! Surrounded by locals cheering, shouting reba, guapa and clapping along almost was a sight to behold on it own. But the dancing and the sound and feel in that tiny room in Madrid is something l know l will never forget! The deafening sound of the dancers feet on the wooden floor getting faster and faster with the music, the flamenco guitar solos, the monotone and eerie singers voice all did something profound to me. But the look on the dancers faces, their immense concentration, passion and energy they put into their five minutes of fame, the rise and falls and crescendos of their performances will haunt me forever! And who could of course forget the one male Signori flamenco dancer! He just had to strike the opening pose with his red cape on and we all melted right there and then! Who ever said dancing was not sexy has never watched flamenco!!!! I have fallen in love with flamenco dancing- and with Spain!!
We spent our one day in Madrid visiting the Pala real de Madrid (Madrid Palace) with its beautiful staircases and amazing interior apartment designs including the very ornate porcelain rooms and the oriental inspired silk rooms. A lovely palace and it only cost us 3.20 Euro to get in with out ISIC. We then strolled through some famous Palazas and past hundreds of tapa bars and decided to have some pasta and try a bottle of 2 Euro wine Janette had found at the supermarket. Needless to say after me and Janette had had a couple of glasses each we were soon walking through the streets of Madrid rather happily- in a way that lam sure poor Kat would rather forget! Hmmmm my memories of Madrid are somewhat blurred after our lunch time antics and l was definitely feeling the call of a siesta! We continues to walk around only to discover that being a Monday all the famous museums and art galleries we had wanted to visit were closed, so personally l was not overall delighted in Madrid as l had been by the rest of Spain. But the flamenco itself was worth the visit!  We had a Ryan air early flight to catch to we fare welled beautiful and cheap Spain and said hello to France again!
