The plane trip to Shanghai did not start well, Kim was very sick throughout the flight, we are sure it was food poisoning from the farmers as Colin went down with it some 12 hours later, so tummies upset, we missed a day in bed, but dragged ourselves out for the last day of our journey, a trip around the city.
This is a city in transformation, there is so much development going on of beautiful modern buildings.....but we prefered the old town, full of great architecture & lots of small side streets with the obligatory street vendors. Apple, our guide insisted on taking us for lunch as we had not eaten since arriving, this was the last thing we needed.....we sat there watching plate after plate arrive before Colin said enough !! take it away, so we got up & left without eating a thing.
In brief, we visited a lovely house with gardens, took a river boat to see the city, walked along the embankment to the memorial to the Communist uprising, strolled through the old town, visited the large museum dedicated to Chineses culture....some of the artifacts were over 2000 years old. We leave our year with this Chinese saying.......womens libbers close your eyes now...... Women, 1st Obey your father, then obey your husband, and if he dies, obey your son At the end of an awesome year we can't wait to get back to see friends & family.....ring us. More thumbnails ...
