We left Mcbride which had amazing blue painted pavements....bit like being in Belfast (but nothing else) the place was deserted as everyone had left to go to the rodeo 50 miles away....we started the drive through Mount Robson NP, found a great cabin overlooking the mountain, which proceeded to disappear behind clouds the minute we checked in !!
Did a few short hikes around spectacular waterfalls, the water is bright blue as fed by galciers, never seen anything like it before, well, not since we last came to the rockies 14 yrs ago.....but very very cold.
Next day we did the start of the hike to Mount Robson which is 24klms each way over 3 days....we did the first 5k each way to Kinnie Lake, still well worth doing (see pics). Moved on to Jasper NP the only place in the World where Mc Donalds was forced to close due to lack of business !
Went up the Jasper tramway, waited over an hour & very crowded, Kim being small couldn't see out of the window much to her dismay....I told her to fight her way to a window.....she is just too polite !! Jasper NP was celebrating it's centenary, at the hot springs they were offering bathing costumes from 100 years ago free of charge to wear (not flattering) so we declined (English reserve came out) but inside just about everyone seemed to have them on.....really enjoyed soaking our bones in the hot springs but avoided the ice cold one (left that to the Germans)....one of the life guards asked them to stop pushing and was promptly thrown in, walkie talkie & all....she was pleased !!
Now if you havn't been to Canada, there are lakes & canyons everywhere, and they are all amazing, there was one we visited, we rushed down to beat the coach party & puffed our way back up, it was really narrow & sculptured (see pics)....they also have sheep that look like goats & goats that look like sheep !! never seen woolly goats before....surely it would be easier to changeover to avoid confusion ?
Anyone that knows Colin will be aware that shopping just is not his thing, but as we had 6 days in the area, and was enjoying the slower the pace, some shopping was inevitable, he nearly dropped off his chair when they wanted $125 for a pair of walking sandals for Kim, after healthy discussion, we decided that we would wait until the next Walmart where they would probably be $30 and last 2 months....I knew there was a reason why I married this man !!
Another amazing discovery we made was that the Canadian gallon is not the same as the USA gallon (which is less) WHY !! surely a gallon is a gallon everywhere...

01 Taking a rest
! can't be all bad....decided to stay a while, but couldn't afford Jasper, so stayed outside the park at a great KOA site in one of the cabins, surrounded by mountains and great views. They also had every night Pie & ice cream socials around the camp fire for $4 each.....needless to say, we were there !!Went up the Jasper tramway, waited over an hour & very crowded, Kim being small couldn't see out of the window much to her dismay....I told her to fight her way to a window.....she is just too polite !!
