Also at lunch were two boys and their father--a trio we have run into no fewer than 5 times at various places in and around Montezuma. They always stood out because one of the pre-teen sons bears an uncanny resemblance to the evil blond actor in "Die Hard. Anyway, I ended up joking with the dad that I felt like we were on the same travel circuit. He asked me where we were staying and I told him Cabuya, and when I asked him where he was staying, he said, La Casa Montezuma
But then again, HAD everything worked out according to the original plan, we may not have been so eager to get out of *the bad* Casa Montezuma that first morning, in which case we wouldn't have run into Ireni walking on the beach, and we would not have met Russ and Tania at playa Piedra Colorada. We would not have ended up at our little beach house in Cabuya with Patches and Brownie and the hermit crabs. We would not have known about El Rio Lejas (the magical tadpole river), and thus we would not have met Emma and Andrew. We would not have eaten at Cafe Coyote, and we would have missed meeting Jenny and her lovely family. We would not have had childcare allowing us to surf and horseback ride. In short, had things gone as planned, we would not have had the amazing experience that we ultimately had.
We ate our final meal family-style in the kitchen of Cafe Coyote. It was hard to say good-bye to Jenny and family, but I am confident our paths will cross again, either in the United States or again in Costa Rica. Tomorrow, off to the Arenal Volcano area!
