ECUADOR

After a big hassle of border crossing, we made it to Cuenca late afternoon, nice place, did a trip to Cajas park, looked a lot like Scotland even rained like Scotland, very scenic. Riobamba and the Devils Nose train, which was fine slightly overated, roof was extremely busy. Banos lovely place 60 km cycle to the jungle and waterfalls and hot spring at night, stayed at hostel Santa Cruz($10) which was immaculate. Quilotoa loop which was the highlight of mainland ecuador. Stayed the night a the Laguna and did the milk float the next morning( which involved paying a dollar for squezing onto the back of a milkfloat which stops every few hundred yards to give or receive milk from the locals). Then up to Otavalo via Quito and really enjoyed the market, got slightly carried away, the strawberries and the grapes were delicious. Quito for a few nights stayed at a really good place in the old town Posada Colonial for $8 a night. Galapagos was amazing, we flew into San Cristobal as Santa Cruz airport was closed, we had not booked a tour and realised it was hard to get a boat, so because we only had a 10 day window we booked a hotel based tour from a man called Freddy of Freddy tours. It cost $450 for 6 days 5 nights, we flew to Isobela island which was great as there was very few tourists there, went to volcano on horses(first time on a horse), tortoise sanctury, saw massive marine iguanas, sharks, snorkling. Then got a boat to Santa Cruz(very rough crossing), did Kayaking, Darwin ect. After a boat back to Santa Cruz, we had a pleasant few days to relax. The best place to stay for cheap was Dona Pilo $18 a night.
