Wake up just in time for french toast covered with home made jams and syrup. karen is a great cook. We move to a bigger room in the next building (with a kitchinette) classic rooms old piano , wood floors, old radios big comfy wood frame beds. Walk downdown to harbour, Duckworth St. See big cargo ships, crab fisherman and part of the harbour - very foggy today. Joke is that the sun is too bright - you never see it for days. Some shops and then #2 - Gov'nor Hotel for a bottle of Dominion, restaurant /pub where we bellied up and had laughs with Heather, Tracy and the cook. We were told a balonny story about hand feeding Red Foxes (Balogny) but we will try anyway. Walk further down and admire the center military monument . Sone and Iron 70 ft over the harbour waters, granite steps honoring the sacrifice of WWI and WWII and Korean War. Unveiled july 1, 1924 and then further down to the webbed foot statues of the NewFoundLand Dog and Labrador. Puffin is the provincial bird and Pitcher is the plant. #3 Sidebar - small pub with a bay window view of the neighborhood. Tried a local QuidiVidi brew - Eric's red. Not bad. Stopped at the new main fire station. Turns out NewFoundland has a huge history of fires. 1957 - Fire dept started. 1892 'Great Fire' burned out 1572 homes/dwellings leaving 11,000 people homeless, and then 50 years later another fire destroyed most of the City again. DG / High Angle / new E-One trucks and quints. Dragger SCBA. Meet the D/C , Lt and Fire Chief too. A strong Combat Challenge team and lots of support from the department. me and Dean (Landlubbers) plan to go visit the training center and tower. St John's never stops - we cook supper and go to George St. 6 pack on the way and meet the 3 neuf's from the plane. #4 Normies - small hip hopper ball cap but 3 for 1 drinks. #5 Attic - small live music cool bartender. #6 - o'Riley's - Live celtic music, good atmosphere. Finish back at Greensleeves again and then wander towards home. Follow the alley past the spray-balm murals , when you get to bob marley - go in: or just follow the smell. #7 Bar None - small dark pool table. Couple more pints. well the locals are still going but we are done...home as the sun rises.
