Last night's sunset was one of the better ones so I just had to record it. Today everyone on board is busy getting ready to debark in the AM. The ship will be going into dry dock for two weeks and the crew is excited about being able to go home for a vacation. Many are from the Far East and will hopefully not have their flights delayed by the volcano ash.

The nice folks at reception are still trying to figure out how to let me off the ship. I want to take everything in tow and debark with the first group since time is of the essence in making my post office and train connections. Apparently the German customs officials want all "luggage" to be routed first and separately through security and then reunited with the passengers after they debark and go through passport control. They have asked for special dispensation in my case and are awaiting a reply. As I post this I am still uncertain of the outcome' but prepared for whatever. I just want to save time by not having to risk damage to the bike by port handlers who sometimes don't heed little warnings on cartons such as "keep upright" and "do not stack." I also want to conserve time so as not to miss train connections.

Stay tuned as the outcome will be revealed, along with the traumatic moments, most likely in the next update, possibly after my arrival in Marburg (Sarnau).

David: What great entries....I think I've gained weight just reading about the ships cusine you've described! Your postcard you sent from NY has a place of honor (on our refrig). Sorry you had to go thru so much trouble getting a stamp! Some sad news: Erika Heine passed away couple days ago, and Herb Winstead is down with the flu. Sure hope you made train connections OK in Hamburg. Keep up the good work on your blog! Chell & Sharon
