We departed La Coruna on the 10th of May at 3 PM, arriving here in Bilbao today, the 11th at 8 AM. We covered 257 nautical miles in 17 hours, or around 15 MPH. This leg we traveled in a more Easterly direction. Yesterday I noticed the map pin for La Coruna was incorrectly set in the Mediterranean due to my misspelling. I had spelled it with an o instead of a u but have since corrected it to show the correct location.

Bilbao is the largest city in the Basque region of Spain. It is an absolutely stunningly beautiful city and I am certainly glad I made the 30 mile round trip by bus from the port to visit this gorgeous place. My main activity was to visit the Guggenheim Museum which I found after a thirty minute walk using a city map. Stupendous in every respect. On display were extensive works of Robert Rauschenberg, Anish Kapoor and Richard Serra. Photography is strictly forbidden but I managed to get off one shot of Kapoor's Shooting Into The Corner without getting nabbed by the guards. I'm still trying to appreciate the art in this and others, as he actually uses an air pressured cannon to shoot masses of colored pigment at a wall. The archetecture of the museum itself is one of the most impressive pieces of art in my opinion.

This is a city that requires a liesurely stay. Unfortunately, we depart here in about thirty minutes and our next stop will be at Dover, England on Thursday May 13th, shortly after transiting the English Channel.
