Seas are still calm. I am sitting in a still deserted lounge on deck seven, right over the stern where the large glass window affords an unobstructed view of the wake that marks our course, a white frothy boil that stretches to the horizon. This is relaxation personified, the quiet here a contrast to the beehive of activity four decks above in the cafeteria where breakfast is a highlight of every cruiser's morning. I can just feel a very slight vibration from the props that are churning directly below.

I asked a nice German man if he would take my picture sitting here to show the boat's wake in the background. We ended up talking for a half hour in German. His wife joined him and we explored subjects as diverse as how to get a taxi at the Hamburg that has bicycle carrying capacity, to her special recipe for making celeriac salad, a German delicacy I hope to master as soon as my plants in Florida mature. Hannelore sent me seeds that I started, and Robbie is caring for the little seedlings with tender loving care in my absence. Our conversation session also served as a good reminder of how much my talent for expressing myself in the German language needs a major tune-up.


There is a German language lesson for Italien folks that just got underway here in this lounge. The instructor is reciting the numbers, days and months to an eager group of aspiring learners. It is so cute to hear the teacher punctuate all her points with what has become an international word......"OK?" Now she is doing German numbers...."Ein & Neunzig, OK?" "Zwei Tausand, Drei, OK?"

I joined Ken, a nice old gentleman from London for breakfast yesterday. He had lots of stories about the German Blitz and his WW-2 army experiences. He is a world traveler and I picked his brain about England, the Cotswolds, walking trails and stuff like that. He had lots of insider tips for getting around by train and air in Europe. Not sure I'll remember them but it was interesting talk. He has to be at least 82 but is certainly spry, young at heart. skinny as a rail and he ate three times more than I did at breakfast.

Speaking of food, it is time to revisit one of the dining emporiums for lunch.

I'm baaack. I tried to be moderate in my selections but it's very difficult to do when so many choices are there and ready for the taking. Today the following selections won my approval; Veal scallopini, cheese flan, heart of palm & artichoke salad, fresh green beans, and a piece of cake & a decaf.

Uh Oh, now it's nap time..gotta conserve my strength for the Gym. So goes the rough life at sea.
