On Monday morning at 8:30 AM, we said goodbye to Mawmaw Goddard and headed south. We bought gas in Fayetteville at an Esso station & took the route to Wytheville, Virginia. It was a very pleasant 68 degrees this beautiful mountain morning. These were the days before the tunnels through the mountains, so the first leg of our drive to Wytheville involved lots of curvy, sick-at-your-stomach roads up and down the mountains.
Our destination for this the night was Julian Price campground, another one of Momma's favorite parkway places and a great campground to spend our last night out. It had been a week already since we performed our camping duties, but after nearly two months, Terri and I were old pros! We were all sad to be headed back home, especially Momma: there was so much uncertainty ahead.
I, however, was looking forward to getting back. School would be starting soon and I was anxious to see my friends. Terri would be starting first grade at Alexander III, the same school where I wouled be going to the 5th grade.
So we had our last night out in a beautiful campground as we celebrated 49 wonderful days traveling the United States!
