Where I stayed
Ray called us soon after and said not to come to Ashburton (we were talking of picking him up) as there were strong wind warnings for the Mid Canterbury. So we changed plans and decided to head over to Akaroa instead, and see what the next day brings in terms of weather. But not before Mitchell had to have a go on the go carts.
Set of about 10.45am and decided to head thru Christchurch on the way and stop in at the motel we stayed in on the first night. We left our suitcases there in storage so we did not have to clutter the van (we are staying there on the way out), but had accidentally left Ray's duty free Gin in there also. So we picked this up on the way so we could give to him when we saw him next, and kept going
To get into Akaroa you have to travel a long windy road up a mountain, and never take your eyes off the rod (no guardrails!). Slow journey in a 7.3m long van, but got there in the end. What amazing country side, so pretty here.
Had a quick look around the main streets of Akaroa (rom the van), then went to find the local holiday camp. Found the local top 10 (equivalent of a Big 4 in AUS) which was perched up the hill and overlooked the town. Quite a large camp but very tired and could do with some love. Lots of potential as the position is great.
We checked in and then headed into town to eat out tonight. Found a nice little pub on the water edge, and ordered. Lynette picked the double cooked pork belly, which was to die for.
After dinner headed back to camp, had showers, and crashed. Plan to explore tomorrow and checkout the weather and decide where to next.
