Where I stayed
Went for a shower and came out to Mitchell feeding all the farm animals (Alpacas, sheep, goat, cows, chickens). Helped him catch a chicken that had got out. He got licked by the calf and left a nice big lick mark on his jacket. And a chicken poo on his shoe!
Had a good chat with the camp owner last night and we decided to keep heading west / north west up to the west coast and check out Doubtful Sound. But before doing so, we decided to g to Bluff and see the most southern point of NZ.
The trip to Bluff was windy as, with the camper van getting buffeted around a fair bit
From there we headed back to Invercargill and travelled thru to head towards Manapouri and Te Anui. We had breakfast at McDonalds and whilst there jumped online and made a booking on the catamaran that take you across Lake Manapouri, power station tour, and then across Doubtful Sound. We are booked to go on this tomorrow morning and can't wait as it will be awesome.
But that's tomorrow. For the rest of today we travelled towards Manapouri with both boys hanging to see some snow. As we headed towards the mountains we could see amazing snow covered mountains and a little bit on the ground here and there. This gradually increased more and more, until finally we hit snow full on. At a safe point we pulled over and had a really cool snow fight. Got some down my back, Lynette got some in the head, Mitchell in the eye, and Patrick in the head. Was all against all, and a lot of fun. When we tired of this we build a small snowman, which Lynette decorated and took some pics of.
We then continued thru the mountains as the light was retreating, which was really nice. This confirmed that we had made the right choice to come at this time of year.
We were going to travel to Te Anui, but decided to stay at Manapouri instead. We parked up at Possum Lodge which is right on the water's edge, and only around the corner from where we are to pick up the catamaran tomorrow morning.
Really looking forward to tomorrow.
