Ahh... Well, it has been a great few days in the capitol city, Kuala Lumpor. KL is the largest city in Malaysia, and it shows. Government buildings, cultural attractions, palaces, slums, night markets, sky scrapers, massive malls and cars. Lots of malls and cars. I have been lucky enough to stay with one of my friends and her family in Putrajaya and have been shown an excellent time by my kindly hosts.
Once I arrived into town, we relaxed for a bit and we went out close to home to get some local eats. We spent the next few days cruising around to different parts of town, all the while sampling a variety of local dishes. We made it down to Chinatown and ate a huge feast down in the 'old' red light district. My first time eating stingray. Not bad. We were able to check out the Batu Caves, a series of caves and cave temples about 10 km outside of KL and is a sacred place for Hindus. I took a long run (i got lost) around the lake in Putrajaya, where I was able to see the largest mosque in Malaysia, one of the royal palaces, and the parliament building. I experienced the all day traffic jam that is downtown KL and the sub arctic temperatures of the ubiquitous mega malls.
Tomorrow morning, we are off to visit a few of the 17,000 islands in Indonesia. We will start in Lombok, and the word on the street is that it is paradise....
