We ended up cruising the Whitsunday islands on our last full day at Arlie Beach...a full day tour that included hanging out and swimming at the most amazing beach I've ever been to (Whitehaven beach), and snorkelling the reef off of Hook island. Whitehaven beach was insane...the sand was so white that it reflected all of the sun, blinding you. A long stretch of white sand, tropical blue/green water, islands everywhere around you...absolutely breathtaking. Dylan and I helped the skip pull up the anchor and he let us have a free drink and jump out of the boat and swim to shore. The snorkelling was great too, not as spectacular as it was up in Cape Trib though. We arrived back at Arlie beach and went back to our jungle hut for a night's rest...these insane Aussie surfers from Wollongong down south wanted to party...these guys were just crazy...but we were pretty beat so it was a no-go for us.
The next morning we arose and drove all day, a very boring drive south. All we passed were dead kangaroos and signs that read: "Tired drivers die." We finally ended up in Rockhampton...a town where nothing happens...had a pie and some Red Rooster and shut things down in some campground.
Today was much better. We arrived in Agnes water/ Town of 1770 (the northern most surf beach in Queensland) and hit up the local surfshop...both of us buying some beauty longboards from a very colorful character. We drove around town and went for a surf at the surf beach...the waves were very small but no matter. The locals tell us a big swell is on the way for Saturday. Who knows if we'll stick around for that. So here we are hanging out at town of 1770 backpackers resort with some cute German girl who works here. Cheers.
