Today was quite the experience. Gibby, myself, and Dylan drove to Phillip Island (the site of the infamous Penguin parade)...there was no parade but we did see five fairy penguins having a nap under some stairs as well as a million seagulls...we hung out at Nobbies...the scenery as nice as, and if not, better than Big Sur...endless empty green fields towering over the rocky sea below...the weather was great too. The best part of our little day excursion occured at the Koala Conservation Park just outside of Cowes. So we pay $9.00 each and enter this conservation park expecting to see Koalas in the wild...for the first hour we see 2 furry balls tucked away 30 meters up a gum tree...we are thinking 'what a goddam rip off'...and then we walk up some bridge in the forest and wham! Friggen' koalas 2 feet in front of you and everywhere...they are eating and sleeping and climbing trees...it was insane...we could almost grab' em. We witnessed a mother Koala with a baby attached to her back perform a stunning tree-to-tree leap of about 10 feet. We took dozens of photographs.
Well, this just about wraps up our brief stay in Victoria...a fantastic region of Australia (especially the coastal parts)...and we our leaving for the sun and heat of Cairns and northern Queensland tommorrow. It turns out the Gibby and the boys are gonna meet us up on the east coast for a week near the end of September.
Cheers and no worries.
