Nikki P. at Enterprise comes through in fashion and we end up tearing down the highway in a brilliant silver Ford Minivan....loaded with boards and backpacks - 'into the mystic'. We decide to stop in at Surf City U.S.A. (Huntington Beach)for Dylan's first ever attempt at inter-wave navigation (surfing). The waves were pretty brutal but a good time was had and when the sun set we paddled out of the washine machine and headed over to the giant surf shops that light up the main strip...made a few key purchases and had an unreal Mexican muck...tacos and whatnot.
Then off to San Diego, one of the greatest cities on the planet. We grabbed a cheap hotel on the Mexican border and awoke early the next morning to the incessant festival sounding hum of Tijuana and spanish folk music. Off to Pacific Beach for a fantastic morning of surfing...small yet clean and clear little waves surrounded by dolphins and all sorts of fish...you could see em' swim beneath your board and only a few meters away Laguna Beach
Laguna Beach
. Dylan caught his first wave and was alot more comfortable out there...I had a few nice short rides, really enjoying the 6'9" I left at Boston Rob's place.
Pacific Beach is the world's best beach town, no question. Good waves all the time, great bars and restaurants, and everyone is young and really cool and laid-back...a place with more surf shops than gas stations...everyone is into it...not to mention some of the best looking girls in California -and they all surf. What more could you ask for?
We met up with Brandon Steppe (a good friend from my California days) for lunch at an amazing Mexican restaurant in Old Town...holy shit. Beef tacos.
We drove back to L.A. via the Pacific Coast highway stopping in La Jolla, Carlsbad, Oceanside (for a rip), and Laguna Beach. Dylan was contemplating purchasing a $15,000,000 beachfront property in Laguna...but backed out at the last second...Oh well.
Exhausted, we arrived back at Rob's place for a good sleep.
The highlight of today (after cruising around Venice beach and my old haunt of Westwood eating up some Mongolian King) was definitely meeting up with Matty Crouse (who drove down from the Bay area) and Scotty. They come ripping around the corner in Westwood... Jesus...off to the Hills of Hollywood for an apartment top BBQ and pool party. And here we reside, Coors lights all around, about to fire things up for Boston Rob's Birthday party...and Matty C and the boys are coming down and I'd imagine we'll be making an appearance at some Hollywood bars up on the strip.
