Not that we appreciate what a weekend is anymore as everyday feels like the weekend to us. Unfortunately we only have two weeks of this luxury left as we sit here outside on the top deck of a ferry headed for Japan.

We left Seoul on Friday to spend the weekend in Busan, a beautiful coastal city. Busan is South Korea`s second city, located on the south east corner, it is well known for its golden beaches.

When we stepped off the train we were disappointed to find that it was pouring with rain. Luckily we didn`t have time to laze around on beaches as we only had a couple of days to see the sights of Busan. We were however hoping for some nice weather as we knew that this would probably be the last time we would see the sun this year. Our hopes were dashed when it continued to rain all through Friday and Saturday. We didn`t let this stop us exploring though; we got on the sightseeing tour bus which enabled us to see the sights whilst keeping dry. We passed by the main beaches which looked like they would be perfect on a nice Summer's day. On this day they looked like beaches from Hawaii with the weather of Blackpool!

Coincidentally we discovered that the Busan International Fireworks Festival was taking place on Gwangalli Beach on Saturday night. We decided to go along having resigned ourselves to the fact that it would probably be a washout. By some miracle the rain stopped about an hour before the fireworks were due to begin, hurray! The scene was incredible and the beach looked beautiful. There is a bridge that runs across the sea in the distance which was illuminated and created a spectacular sight. It was the most perfect location and without doubt the firework display was the best that we have ever seen. We expected the area to be really crowded but were pleased to find that there was quite a bit of open space on the beach. Everyone sat down on blankets on the beach to watch the show, we couldn`t believe that no one stood up in front of us as that`s what usually happens!

On Sunday morning we awoke to find sunshine, woohoo! It wasn`t a completely wet weekend after all. It was good to be able to enjoy the weather on the beach for a while before our overnight ferry to Japan.

We are sad to be leaving South Korea, it is such a lovely country. We cannot believe how helpful and kind the Korean people are. On Saturday two people offered us their umbrellas and in the convenience store someone even helped us to choose a pot noodle! It just shows that sometimes it is better to go somewhere that not many people go to!
