We both thought that we had almost exhausted Shanghai so we decided to spend two days in Nanjing before heading to Xi'an. So off we went to the train station on Sunday morning to get a train to Nanjing. They run about every half hour so we thought that getting a seat wouldn't be too hard. We were wrong! To our surprise every train was fully booked except deluxe business class. We had to abort our plan and we believed that Nanjing had become the first casualty of the National Holiday. On arriving back at the hostel we found that they provided tours to Nanjing, however we only had one full day left in which we could go on this tour.

We thought that getting two places on a tour for the next day during the holiday would be impossible, but luckily they did manage to find us two seats. The tour started at 6:30am in the morning and they told us that it wouldn't be in English. We didn't really mind the tour being in Chinese as we just wanted to see the sights. As it happened we were the only foreign people on the tour!

The tour included two Buddhist temples, a visit to the 'Seshuan Gardens', a trip to a random supermarket where nothing was in English, and the 'Nanjing Mausoleum'. The tour was very fast paced, lunch consisted of going to a Chinese restaurant and eating as much food as possible in the space of ten minutes before rushing off again. We had no idea what was going on for most of the day but that actually made is quite fun, it was like a mystery tour not knowing where we were going next.

Nanjing was so crowded we now see why there were no train tickets left! It was a bit of a whistle stop tour but at least we got to see the sights. We even took a boat ride, which was nice. At the 'Nanjing Mausoleum', three groups of people asked to take pictures with us which was funny, it even amused the other people in our tour group.
