27 December
We crossed once again back into
Senegal. The Gambian officials were all fine but in Senegal they
wanted a bribe for writing our name in the book. They are still
waiting! Made it to the town of Ziguincher where we hope to get our
visa for Guinea Bissau. The Consulate had moved and so we went
looking and found it 10 minutes before it closed. This was 2 pm on
Friday and it did not open again until 9am Monday. Unfortunately we
did not have the required photos, or cash with us but the Consul
himself actually gave us his name and phone number and told us to
phone when we had everything. We then managed to find a bank and get
the money and then phoned him up about 4 pm. He told us to wait at
the embassy for him and after about 15 minutes he drove up, opened
the Consulate, filled in the visas and just took the basic cost of
the visa. We were quite amazed at how good he actually was. Whilst
trying to get the use of a phone a local man came up to us and
introduced himself and let us use his phone. As it turned out he runs
a camp-site in the town, which we did not know about, and so we went
there for the night. It turned out to be very pleasant and we would
have stayed longer if our papers had allowed us. The camp was Camping
Casamance and is at N12.570.75 W 16.248.50.
