As we have 3 more days to wait we have
decided to go wild camping because the place we are staying is awful
and expensive in all respects. In fact Senegal is the most most
expensive country for everything. It is £16 a night just to park
with no showers or toilets that it is possible to use. Food costs, a
small bag of potatoes costs £6 as against £1.10 in the UK. Anyway
we have now driven to Lac Rose, Rose Lake. This was the traditional
end to the Paris -Dakar rally which has been held in South America
since 2008 because of terrorist threats
because in the right light conditions it goes a vivid pink due to the
salt in the water, they do in fact collect the sea salt and sell it
commercially. Unfortunately the lake today is blue, although we have
seen the same thing in the salt plains in Boliviar. We will be camped
up at the edge of the lake until Monday.
Woken up to a lovely clear day with no
smog and a light breeze. There are lots of different birds around,
also goats and the occasional cow but they do not smell.
Another lovely day, it is very peaceful
and quiet here. The locals walk by with just a look and then carry on
with no problems. Mike is making me some earrings and I am doing the
usual stitching and reading.
