This morning we decided we could travel on a bit so we have driven through Belmopan, the capital and carried on to the Blue Hole National Park. Today we have parked at the visitor centre and taken a stroll to St Herman's Cave. The cave is about a mile long, complete with a river running through it. We could go in for about ¼ mile without a guide, that said there were no guides here today. My back was too sore to go up and down all the steps so Mike went on his own, the cave is very big, around 50 feet tall and wide with the river about 12 feet wide on average. There are quite a lot of stalagmites and stalactites with a few of them joined into a column. Although nothing extra special it was worth a stroll to see. We shall stay here over night and visit the Blue Hole in the morning.
23rd.- Took a stroll around to the Blue Hole; it is a collapsed cave roof with the river running through. It is only blue in one area although that is very vivid. There are quite large fish swimming around and it is safe to swim in it. We, well Mike also went around the Hummingbird trail, a one mile walk through the jungle. Apart from lots of more usual birds he did manage to spot a couple of King Vultures having a feed. He also saw what looked like a coral snake, one of the deadly snakes. On checking on return we found out it was a harmless snake although still with the same colour bands, just in a different order
