This morning it is onto the moped to go into the town itself. This town was the birthplace of another of the conspirators in 1810, Ignacio Allende. The first stop we made was to see the house where he was born. This again is a very big house, he was a nobleman, but again the house was closed for renovation. We set off then to go around the main sights, these included the Church of the Concepcion from the mid 18th century, alongside is the school of Fine Arts housed in the former monastery. This still has lots of the small rooms around the central courtyard; upstairs it still has some of the original paintwork and so made a pretty picture. Further on we came to one of the most imposing old houses, it now houses a bank. The building covers almost half a block and still has its original carved wooden entrance door. Next stop is the tourist office; this is housed in the building used by the first independent government set up by Hidalgo. On again to the Chapel of the Third Order, another part of a Franciscan monastery, it comes complete with lots of stone statues. Next door to that is another Franciscan monastery with the Church of St Francis again with even more carved statues. Believe it or not but within 500 metres are another two major churches. We actually went behind the main Plaza, a very nice tree lined area, to the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel, and the parish church pictured and built in the late 19th century. Once again this even has a church from 1742 right next to it. From here it is back to the vehicle.
