A triple day today--after the first show, we had enough time to go back home for lunch and a couple hours' rest.

As we were driving home, a hoar frost (or "white frost") was clinging to the trees. We had seen it in the early morning, and we were still surprised that it was still there. Kelsey snapped some pictures as we drove, but there was one particularly pretty tree that we missed.

"Turn around."

I've heard this before, so I pulled off to the right, and tried to make a wide left turn to turn around. I figured it would be faster than doing a 3- or 4-point turn.

As it turned out, it wasn't faster.

We ended up in a ditch on the other side of the road. The front tires were stuck in over a foot of snow, and the back tires had no traction to pull out.

We carry four 2x4 planks of wood with us for our set-ups, so I wedged those under the back tires. I also dug out the front tires to give them a chance. As Kelsey pulsed the gas, I pushed on the front. For about ten minutes it didn't budge, but with a little time and tweaking, we got the van to move.... even more into the ditch. One of the back tires slid further away from the road, leaving us nearly parallel with the road. Kelsey prayed "Lord, we just need a big truck." And within minutes, a guy with a big pickup truck pulled up and asked us if we needed any help.

He chained up our front bumper to his hitch, and effortlessly dragged our van out onto the road. Whew! We thanked him, and he went along his way.

Oh yeah. And we went back and got that picture of the tree.
