This mindset followed me into the hotel tonight.
We were staying in a Radisson, thus it had a nice pool and fitness center which we intended to take advantage of. Mike decided to do some work on the computer, so I got my work-out gear on and headed toward the fitness center. On my way I fell into step with an older gentlmen going the same direction, first the same elevator, then the same hallway... It was one of those awkward times when you are walking with a complete stranger and you know you're going the same place so it's weird to speed up or slow down, because you'll both end up there anyway, but it's weird to talk because they are a stranger. But the longer you go without talking, the more awkward it will be to start talking.
Anyway, I went to the treadmill while the older man went to the stair stepper. The remote for the TV was on my machine, and, not wanting to continue in silent weirdness, I asked if I could turn it on.
He said, "sure - watch whatever you want!"
I quickly found a sitcom that I could enjoy, but something in me said, "keep clicking." A few channels later, MercyMe was singing "I can only imagine" on the TV screen.
I thought to myself, "well, he did say 'whatever you want.' And I like this song, so... " I left it there. After the song ended, a man got up, by now I've figured it'a a televised Aquire the Fire (A Christian Teen Summit), and started to preach a very good gospel message. I left the treadmill and the TV right where it was to go work on the exercize ball and free weights. Shortly thereafter another man walked in and got on the treadmill. He looked at the TV, then at the old man. Not wanting to be rude, he didn't touch the TV remote. He thought the old man was watching it. Now I had a captive audience of two! I smiled to myself and prayed for them both as I listened to a discription of heaven and how much God loves us flow from the plasma.
I'm OK with being a covert spy for Jesus. When the opportunity presents itself, I pray for the courage to speak about the truth I know in my own heart. But, when the opportunity presents itself, I am OK with letting someone else do the talking!
