Welcome back, readers! This summer absolutely flew by! Before we knew it, we were back in California getting geared up for a new year. Kelsey and I had the privilege of training the newcomers. Training was so much fun (mostly because we didn't have to run around in the California heat)—we got there a day early (better start than last year), and were able to meet each new tech as they arrived. We knew everyone's names by Day 2, and were able to start building relationships with each of them.

Kelsey got to know some of the girls particularly well, so she hopes to have some girls to talk to on the road. We also connected with the other married couples—Nik and Minda, Steve and Ashley, and Tim and Mandy. We’ll all be over on the East Coast this year, so we hope to keep the friendships going by meeting up whenever possible.

All in all, training was a great time of building a community. Kelsey hung out with the girls playing and singing worship songs. Michael defended his speed record for setting up a screen. Bible studies were led by various returners each night, with direct application to the job.

This job is so difficult when you feel isolated from the rest of the world, which could easily happen. But really, there are two dozen people doing what we’re doing—and these two weeks have provided the opportunity of forming friendships with each and every one of them. For that we’re thankful.

So! We are energized for a new year. We’re being sent off to the Northeast! We’ll be darting around New York State for the first half of the semester, then criss-crossing New England for the second half. That’s the plan, anyway.

After a full two weeks of training, we packed up our van and headed out. Let the adventure begin.
