Well, we arrived in South Texas this afternoon. We booked a night in Knight's Inn. Now, Knight's Inn is typically one of the dumpier hotels we come across. It's usually a hotel to avoid, or to use as a last resort. However,  I gotta tell you--this was a pleasant surprise here in Pharr, Texas. It's actually very nice! So, if you ever find yourself unable to go any further south, and still remain in the country, stay the night in Knight's Inn. :)

Anyway, the hotel was not the highlight of the evening.
About five minutes from us, our friend Denise grew up. Denise and I competed on the forensics team together. She's still on the team, in fact, and competing at the Christian National Tournament this weekend, in fact. So, we were not able to meet up with her. But! We were able to meet up with her parents.

We met them for dinner at a restaurant of their recommendation, Junction Cafe. It serves -real- Mexican food. Kelsey ate chilupas, and I ate fajita beef tacos. So good. We also tried pig feet soup. Not as stellar. But still -- dinner was fantastic, and the conversation even better.

We had a refreshingly wonderful time at dinner. It is a rare treat to be able to dine with other people--and tonight, we forgot that we had never even met them before.
Thanks, Denise, for hooking us up--we love your family :)

So now we go to bed in preparation of a double day tomorrow. First, to Mission, TX. Then, to La Joya, TX. Then we've got another big drive up to San Antonio, working our way up to Fort Worth by Friday.

That's the scoop! Signing out, from the southern border.
